Inspired by a silver tetradrachm minted in Kos island around the 5th century B.C. Obverse: Discobolus with a tripod prize, "KOS" Reverse: crab, distinctive local emblem. The figure of the discobolus refers to the games held in honor of Triopian Apollo. The first prize of the games was a brazen tripod that the winner dedicated to the god.
